Do you have the ""Read all standard mail in plain text" box checked on
Tools>Options>E-mail Options?

This box is not checked off. I have found that I can send to others in html
and receive from others in html, but when I send to myself it arrives as
plain text.

Do you have a Contact record for yourself? If so, open it and double-click
your email address. What shows in the drop-down at the bottom?

Hi Brian

Have you been able to resolve this? I've posted twice with a similar
problem on Office 2000 and I feel llike an idiot because all the right boxes
are checked.

Was this ever resolved? I have a similar problem, but it only started after
I experimented with turning "read as plain text" on, then turning it off
again. Anybody that sent me email while it was on still gets converted to
plain text. New users are recieved as HTML.

Hi Geoff...it was resolved...but not the way I wanted....upgraded to outlook
2003...clicked the boxes like everyone suggested...no change to
problems...ended up changing the scripting on our Website that generates the
emails to me and changing all mail back to plain text....I've got a feeling
something changed behind the scenes during a XP update and it is not fixable
using the standard interface - also the scripting for our website and our
host might be responsible....good luck.

"not fixable using the standard interface" is right! I have had a suggestion
to back up my .pst file and create a new one. I tried something like that a
while back, but I haven't done it since I've completely re-installed Office.
I guess I'll try that again as soon as I can gird my loins for the task. I'm
not part of a scripting environment and I can check that the emails as they
arrive in the server's inbox are still HTML when I look at them through
webmail. Therefore it must be Outlook! I suspect you are probably in the
same situation. I'll try and keep you posted. If any MVP reading this has
further suggestions, please feel free to contribute :-) It is most
frustrating :-(

Thanks Geoff...for me it got way past the economic point... trying to make
the emails more cosmetically appealing for us was not worth the effort in
time spent trying to get help on this.
