Recall point

Lost a term paper during a cut and paste operation. Having looked everywhere
and finding nothing, how can I find out if it's in the recall memory of my
computer? Can I go back to a certain day/time? Desparate.

To open System Restore, copy or type this in Start/Run
%SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
Click OK

Select - Restore my computer to an earlier time - Click Next
Numbers with an available Restore Point will be bold
Select the closest day to your paper (maybe yesterday)
Click Next and let the Wizard do what it needs to do.

If that Restore Point didn't work, try the next one (day before
yesterday)

Good Luck

Kamro,
I should have also suggested that you first use a content search of the
computer.
Click Start/Search
If you need help, open Start/Help and Support
Type Search in the search slot at the top and press Enter
In the resulting list on the left, select Search for a file or folder
You should find whatever instruction you need there.
Try doing a content search of the whole drive using a word or words not
usually used

If you were using MsOffice, it probably has a temp file with your
contents in the folder where the file was, the name will be similar but
with symbols in it.

Hope this helps

Unfortunately, System restore does NOT, I repeat, *NOT* , restore data.
Unless you have a backup, you're stuffed.

Be aware that System restore does NOT, I repeat *NOT* , restore user data.

There's no such thing, to my knowledge, as a "recall" point. Are you,
by any chance, referring to the Restore Points created by the System
Restore process? If so, the answer would be "No." System Restore is
designed to preserve _system_ files, but doesn't preserve data files.

What specific application were you using to write the paper? Did it
not have an auto-save function, and where does it save/store its
temporary files?

Look in whatever folder it was in for a file with a similar name.

Tommie, I'm glad to have this info for future problems, but I think I am,
according to Gordon, stuffed. Thanks for your info!

Gordon, unfortunately, the only 'back-up' was it being saved in My Documents
on the computer. I'm asking Santa for a memory stick! Thank you for your
information.

Bruce, I was indeed referring to a Restore point. Specific function -
Control A, Control C, Control V from My Documents to Outlook Express. I
think I just hit a wrong key somewhere along the way and completely wiped it
out. It auto-saves in My Docs but because I got a minimum security warning
at the same time of the "accident," I "cleaned" the computer, and dumped
unnecessary temp files. I'll just have to eat it. Thank you.

Frank, I did look everywhere possible. Looks as if I'm just out of luck this
time. Thanks for your suggestion.

Tommie, I don't see my previously posted reply so I'll post again. I'm glad
to have finally gotten information on how to restore from a certain point,
although it looks as if I'm just out of luck on this one. Thank you for the
info!
