How to launch recovery point outside Windows shell? Neither normal boot nor
safe boot will work.

Windows\system32\config\system File Is Missing Or Corrupt

Windows\system32\config\system File Is Missing Or Corrupt - With this
error, when XP won't start, boot with the XP CD and go to the Recovery
Console. Type:

cd system32\config [enter]
ren system system.old [enter]
ren system.alt systemalt.old [enter]
copy c:\windows\repair\system [enter]
copy c:\windows\repair\regback\system [enter]
exit

Thank you so much! I was stumped and your post did the trick (so far)!

I am having simular problem, however I am using a ntfs file sys.w/2 drivers
and one has been making noise and finally crashed. This is only the tip of the
iceberg now when I start to boot (This hard disk that crashed was my C:\ but
all my sys. files are F:\) sys.does a disk chk.and most of the files are
unreadable. When disk chk. is complete it freezes, and cannot shut down.I can
boot up if i unplug power and ribon., however the boot sequence stops at the
welcome screen and my mouse and keyboard are froze. Needless to say I cannot
click on user name or use keyboard to enter. I am seriously stuckI am by no
means an advanced user nor am I a beginer but this is very troubling How am I
going to take care of this? If you need more input on this to come up w\a
solution feel free to ask,I will be glad to give you more details.

Get a new Hard drive install it in place of the broken one
Reinstall XP onto it.

ALSO..........
you should never post your problem under someone else's
No one will read it........no one will answer.
It is only polite to start your own tread

You don't really mean the second copy command as written, do you? It would
just overwrite the "system" file created by the first copy command. Besides
I can't find another "system" file in the regback directory, only
ntuser.dat and UsrClass.dat
