My current HD is about to die and I want to replace it.
1) How do I retrieve my license from the system? I do have the
WindowsXP cd with me but i have misplaced the license.

2) What will be the best why to go about and installing the new HD has
a system boot disk? without taking out the current disk. (at least
until i will put the new system together).

Thanks,

Clone the old hard drive to the new and you'll be fine. You will,
however, have to buy cloning software. Acronis True Image is my
choice.

I think the cloning solution handles that one too.

..... also, cloning your hard drive is easier than a rebuild (clean install)
but any other issues like clutter in the registry, orphan files and such will
come over to the new HD. A clean install is a lot of work depending on how
much stuff you have on your HD now, but performance will improve if the time
is taken to do a clean install.

..... And, reference the the #2 question, you could put both HD's in the case.
Make your new one the master, your old one the slave. Leave the old one
unhooked until you are satisfied with your new install. If you mess up, you
can always put the old HD back in line as the master drive.

Visit this site and look at the AIDA32 program (free), it gives very, very,
very detailed information. There is a section for "licenses" that are stored
on your PC. It should give you the Windows key if you have a valid/legal copy.

There is no illegal copy of Aida32. But Aida32 shows the Windows key
even if the Windows copy is illegal;-)
