Reboot Without Password

Tony

I have made an error but not sure what it is or how to
correct it.
When I start up my new Gateway computer using Windows XP,
a blank screen appears with the request to "Enter Current
Password" (maximum 7 digits). When I enter, the boot
continues into Windows.
How can I get rid of this screen and have the computer
boot to Wimdows without entering a password? I tried to
get to the BIOS screen but cannot access anymore. Thanks
for your help.

Tony

It probably is in bios settings. If you are locked out,
you have to pull the bios off the board and wait a while.
It should forget everything in 5-10 min or use the bios
reset jumper if it has one (most do).

Hi Tony,

It appears that you have somehow set a CMOS Boot Password. What this does
is require you to enter a password before it will allow the computer to
boot.

This setting is stored in the BIOS.

WARNING: If you are not familiar or comfortable making changes in your
BIOS, please have someone more knowledable look at this or take it to a
computer store

When you boot your computer, you have the opportunity to hit F2 or F12 for
Setup.
Each MB manufactuer differs on setup, so you may have to explore.
Look for a setting that says Power On Password or Boot Password and turn it
off. You will have to enter the current password to do it I believe.

Thx,

Thanks but I don't know what you mean by "pull the Bios
off the board".
Also, where can I find the bios reset jumper?
