Here's one I haven't run into before. I have a computer that's having a
bit of a problem. I will tell it to Shut down only to see it come back to
the desktop and not do anything necessary to shut itself down. I'll tell it
Shut Down again and it will actually do so and shut itself off. This is
sporadic and doesn't appear to be causing any real problems but it is a bit
annoying.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and thanks -

Jon

We've had this problem a few times, always started appearing after
installing windows updates... We usually just told our customers to live
with it, as an easy solution was never found.

Sent using the Microsoft Entourage 2004 for Mac Test Drive.

You have something running in the background that Windows is not able to
shutdown the first time. You may have a undesired program running
perhaps? Task manager will list processes for you.

I thought about a service or program running in the background that
isn't shutting down the with the first Shut Down request but I haven't seen
anything out of the ordinary. I'll keep looking though. Thanks for the
Reply's everyone - they really are appreciated.

WINDOWS XP SHUTDOWN & RESTART TROUBLESHOOTING

Most likely a program or process hanging up. What if you do a fresh reboot
and then immediately restart without running any programs other than those
that start automatically - does it still hang? If so do some clean boot
troubleshooting.
