You often have to restart windows after installing an application or an
update. I just wanna know why this is necessary, what is the (usual?)
reason?

Thank in advance!

Sometimes it's because it's trying to update a file/driver/registry
key,etc.. that is in use. Rebooting frees the file and it can be updated.

It's because a component (for example a dll file) that is currently running is being changed by the installation or update. So the change can't actually take place until rebooting clears out the old copy and loads the new one.
