i belive it had a "lite" version (like 602) but it was very colorful / very
cartoonish (like EasyOffice).

i can picture the screen shots but google comes up short.

me thinks it was geared towards kids ? (i could be wrong)

When you say clone, do you mean it could handle MS Office files, or it
just looked a bit like Office? It rings a bell, but nothing specific.
I'll have a look through the old boxes of magazine cover disks and see
if it was given away at all...

fucntioned a bit like ms office / openoffice but was cartoonish like
easyoffice.

there was a freeware lite version and a payware full version IIRC.

was aimed primarily towards kids or those with little or no computer
experience (like easyoffice).

You're not talking about Eddy are you? It's now shareware.

This is a long shot, but could you be thinking of PC-GEOS? It was later
known as Geoworks Ensemble, NewDeal Office, and currently Breadbox Office.
Always a commercial product, but limited functionality "lite" versions were
sometimes available. One was called GeoPublish.

You can see some screen shots here:

The current owner of the product appears to offer a free, "lite" version,
which I have not tried and cannot vouch for. There is also some information
about tweaking it to run under Windows XP:

just like people i can recognize a screenshot (or face) but not a name.
:-)

BUT i do remember that it had a lite version (sic) was very animated
(cartoonish) and for some reason the color yellow sticks in my head.
IIRC it had an office assistant similiar to that found in ms office
(that could be a flash in the pan tho); i thought it was an early
version of easy office but i was wrong (i came across easy office 3x
just last night).

it seems it was geared towards kids and office newbies (like easy
office but not as "professional" as easy office).

at first for some reason i thought it was by the same authors of
incredimail (or similiar product).
