Real Player Starts at Bootup?

I don't recall or even see that I've scheduled RP to start up at boot. I
don't see a task scheduled. Maybe it's not done with the Control Panel
Scheduler?

Check in the options for Real Player for a setting to not have it run at
startup. Otherwise remove it from the Run key in the registry.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Maybe I'll just remove RealPlayer from my system. How in the world would
something like this get into start up anyway?

For some programs the installation routine does this without asking if you
want it. You should be able to stop it from starting automatically without
uninstalling it.

Here are some options:

1. Configure RealPlayer so it doesn't always start:

Go to Tools>Preferences>Automatic Services. Go to Message Center (at the
left panel), click to "Configure Message Center", and uncheck "Check for
new messages."

Go to Tools>Preferences>AutoUpdate. Uncheck "Automatically download and
install important updates."

And you may or may not need to disable a startup entry in msconfig
called TkBellExe (realsched.exe).

2. Uninstall RealPlayer, then install the less obtrusive Real
