When I had Windows XP, etc and was online using Internet Explorer, I could
hit the email icon (envelope) and be taken to my email account in Outlook
Express because I made it my default mail handling program.
In Windows Vista Idon't see an email icon and to get to my Windows mail,
Ihave t minimize my Internet Explorer screen and click on the Windows Mail
icon on my Desktop to read my mail.
Is there no way to get to my Windows Mail directly from Internet Explorer??
Please, all those who answer this email understand that I am a novice on the
computer and if you use computer jargon and don't geve me steps EXACTLY how
they need to be done, I will most likely be lost.
Thanks!

In IE7,
right-click on the toolbar (with the tabs on it)
select "Customize Command Bar"
select "Add or Remove Commands"
select "Read Mail" in the left box, click on "Add->"
click on "Read Mail" in the right box, and click on "Move Up", until it move
to the top of the list
Click "Close"

You should see the envelope on the toolbar.

You can also add the Windows Mail shortcut to the Quick Launch area of the taskbar,
so you can start up mail with one click, regardless of which other app is on screen.

Dave,
This did in fact place an envelope icon on the toolbar, but when I click it,
Microsoft Outlook opens up even though it is not my default mail program.
So, it didn't do what I wanted it to, but thanks.
Gary had a suggestion which I am using, but would also like to have the
envelope icon on the IE toobar to open up Windows Email. Doesn't appear that
is a possibility. Sometimes newer OS isn't necessarily better when they mess
with appearance and perfromance option.
If anyone knows of the way to get the envelope to open up Windows Email I
would love to hear from you.
Thanks again!

Make sure that Windows Mail is set for all of the email defaults...

Vista Start - Default Programs - Set Default Programs
Windows Mail
Set this program as Default.
OK

Dave,
that worked perfectly; I had made it my default program in Windows Mail but
I guess that's not where I had to do it; both you and Gary were great! thanks
for your help!

Yes very helpful I insist on doing this myself I get nervous and make a bigger mess when I am taking to someone. If it wasn't for this for the last 2 weeks I think I would really be going crazy.
Thank you all,
