Reading the Floppy A-drive on Log On/Off

Whenever I log on or off or switch user with Windows XP,
it searches the floopy (3 1/2) drive for up to 15 seconds
if there is no disk in the drive. This makes an annoying
noise as the system attempts to read a (nonexistent)
disc. Is this a problem with a Windows XP program, the
floppy (3 1/2) driver, or the hardware itself? Please
advise. Thanks

It could be your virus scanner or you may have disk indexing
turned.
