I saved some files with my old NT computer on cd, and now
I'm having trouble retrieving those files with my XP
machine. My old pc was a Dell, and my new pc (work
computer) is a Compaq. Is there any way I can retrieve
these files?

Thank you for any info or help you can provide.

Depends on how you saved it onto a CD. Regardless of the OS you are
running, CD formats are usually either ISO (Joliet), UDF or MRW. What
program did you use to save your files onto CD?

basic, misc. files. But the cd is not even being read,
or acknowledged by the XP machine at all. I saved them
using an external cd drive (I believe it was an HP),
connected to a port on the Dell laptop. I just inserted
the disc now and clicked on D: drive, and it says to
insert disc... So, I eject, reinsert, and get the same
thing...
Ok, those files are fine. How did you burn the cd, what software? Is it a
data cd, or some hp packetwriting format. If it's not burned as a standard
data cd or is on a cd-rw, then you might need the software you burned it
with to view it. For example direct cd creates a packet writing formatted
cd, but with direct cd or the direct cd viewer, the cd doesn't work.

initially burned it with. That will probably not happen,
so I'm glad these files are not life and death. The
software was from test equipment that is not in my
possesion anymore...

Thank you all for your help!

You're welcome.
