I followed the instructions in Help how to install the News command in the
Go menu. Unfortunately, i dropped it onto the toolbar instead. I re-set the
toolbar, and now the command has disappeared altogether. I even reinstalled
Office but the news command has just gone. Any ideas?

Make sure OE is set as your default newsreader in Control Panel-> Internet
Options-> tab Programs

Many people have recommended this advice, and I have no doubt it's accurate.
However, it's puzzling to me because I added the News item to my Go menu and
I don't have anything in the Programs tab's Newsgroups drop-down. Yet,
everything works as advertised for me. I'm not asking for a problem to be
solved, I'm just wondering why I don't have to meet the stated conditions.

Had that at first as well. I found that I was unable to run shortcuts though. Then I set OE as the newsreader but I didn't like that
startup page so I ripped the registry of an Outlook 2002 system and imported
it on my Outlook 2003 system; works like a charm. The registry key can be
downloaded from my website.
