read-only

All of my documents on a CD are read only. They can't be deleted or changed
without renaming all of them--which would take hours. How can change
documents in Word and Excel so they are no longer read-only?

All documents on a CD will be read only - unless the CD is rewritable. You
will need to save them to your hard drive, or a removable flash drive in
order to make them editable.
 
As Rae indicates, that is the nature of the CD medium. You should never
attempt to read and write Word files to/from CD. *Always* copy to the hard
drive. You can easily remove all the read-only attributes in a single
operation using Wiondows Explorer.
