Read only versus archive ?

I am trying to save my files from floppy disks that I have been able to
change whenever I want, but when I transfer the files to a CD they transfer
as a read only file. I have clicked on properties to change to archive but it
won't let me do it. Any solution to this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Saving files on floppy, these days, and then editing them there is asking
for trouble. ie corrupt/unreadable
If you wish to edit files keep them on the HD.
You need to specific Burning software to edit / add to files on a cd, that
also is not reccomended.
When you run your backup (sic!) keep the copies on CD / DVD or External HD.

I am using CD/RW that's why it's confusing. I thought that was supposed to
mean rewritable. I'm not so sure that the improved technology from floppy to
CD is such a good idea. I can change on the floppy, other than space I wonder
what the advantage to the comsumer is supposed to be ? Thanks for your
response.

Space is the advantage, you're right. 600MB is a HUGE advantage over
1.4 MB.

With a CD-RW you can erase and rewrite the entire disk, or you can use
packet driver software to make it work somewhat like a giant floppy.
The files will still be marked read-only (I think), but you will be
able to replace them. A disk written this way is often unreadable by a
read-only CD machine, or even by a CD-RW running a different packet
driver.

Thanks to all that have responded. While I was reading them I had an idea and
it works. I change what I want then click "save as" and use the same name and
it gives the option to overwrite. I tried it and it works .
