Read-only properties on contacts?

Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to set 'read-only' properties on a contact
before that is being replicated to a user's private folder? We sync the
contacts with our CRM app, and want to keep them in sync with the private
folder?

Thanks,
(e-mail address removed)

Contacts don't have read-only properties - permissions on the folder
containing them control this. What exactly is set up, and what do you mean
by "private folder" ? Do you use the term to distinguish it from a public
contacts folder?

"private folder" as in the contacts folder for an individual user, as
opposed to a public folder which would be accessible for all authorised
users. What we do is replicate contact details between CRM and Exchange; the
details of a contact are loaded into the private contacts folder of a user;
we were hoping they could be set us 'read-only' so they stay in sync with CRM
as it is only one-way replication. Are you saying priviliges cannot be set on
an individual contact (i.e. a single vCard) but only on the folder?

OK - best to say "mailbox folder" as when you say private, many people will
presume you're using a PST file or something.

Yes.
What are you using to sync/copy TO the mailbox contacts - can you not
specify that it is always to overwrite existing data?
vCards don't apply here - those are vcf files - not actual contacts in a
folder.

We are syncing contact details i.e. name, address, title, department.... It
will be set to overwrite, but what I would like to prevent is that a user
changes the business contact after contact details have been downloaded to
Exchange. Is there a way to prevent a user from modifying details of a
business contact in their Contacts-folder i.e. the contact details are set to
'read-only'?

Thanks,
Chris

As I said before, no, you can't. Users have full access to *everything* in
their mailboxes. Why can't you just use a public folder for these contacts
instead? You can control access very granularly therein.

Hi again,

quick follow-up question: when we replicate contact details to a public
folder, is it possible to set authorisations on individual contacts on a
user-level (i.e. almost individual properties on every contact) so that not
all users can acces all contacts in that folder. Reason is there are about
30.000 contacts and we would not want all users accessing (i.e. seeing) all
users?

Thanks again for your help.

Using your CRM software, I presume? (there's no native way to do this)
is it possible to set authorisations on individual

No - you can control whether a *folder* is visible, or not.
You can't do that with individual folder items - just whether they are
read-only (etc) or not.
