read only, illegal operation

I'm not a new word user, but I think I've never grasped just how files work. I'd like a route to understanding files, labels, storage, saving etc

Also, I've been getting "read only" messages on pages I'm currently trying to update, and then illegal operation messages. I don't know what normal or template means. Where do I go for guidance
