Please help. I am at my Wit's ends. I did a wonderful 238 slide show with
music and pictures from my trip to Europe. I want to put on CD's for
relatives. When I try to Pack N' Go it gives me the read only business - so I
went to MS Support site and read their quick fix on Read Only True Type
fonts. I followed their instructions and made sure I saved it in an earlier
version and made sure all boxes were unchecked with embed true type fonts,
then saved. Then I checked its properties and it says Archive not Read only
so that was good. But when I went to save it to a CD it gives me the "can't
save file is a Read Only" bla bla...and I've checked over everything the
embed fonts is not checked, and there is no password etc. it won't even save
to my harddrive - because of the read only. I hope someone can help. My
comnp. is running Windows ME and I recently upgraded my Office to XP 2002
from an earlier version Office 2000 - (by the way the PP show was originally
made in the the older version)- also my computer won't let me uninstall XP
2002 it just hangs during uninstall - frozen - so this is not an option.
Please if anyone has any suggestions - much appreciated! Thanks Tanya

Never try to save directly to a CD. First save it to your hard drive. Then use
your CD burning software to copy the file to a CD-R.

But first, do you still have the original file on hard disk? You should open
PowerPoint and then open the presentation. Immediately do a File > Save As,
making sure that the option to embed fonts is not selected, and give it a new
name and save it as Presentation(*.PPT). Then close PowerPoint and go to My
Computer and locate this new file. Right click and select Properties. Make
sure that the Read Only box is completely empty and white (not shaded). If you
get this far you should have a good working copy that you can save to your hard
disk using Pack and Go.

Tanya,

What Sonia said. But also keep in mind that the PowerPoint embedded type Read
Only issue is one thing and not in any way related to whether a file is marked
as read only by Windows. Both need to be dealt with but they're two unrelated
issuse.
