Read Only excel spreadsheet linked to Access

I have an excel sheet linked to an access database but it is setup as read
only(and must stay that way), It will not allow me to run queries...(I keep
getting an error message). Is there a simple way (I don't write code well) to
do this while keeping it read only?
 
Install all the latest Office service packs should work. The ability to edit
has been removed.
 
What do you mean by "will not allow me to run queries"?
Do you have some SQL that you could share?
 
Thanks for your help...Did more investigating and made a change with the
permissions of the Excel sheet (from exclusive to shared and kept the
password protection) now everything is working great!
