the problem first manifested itself when creating CDR-Ws.
when I found that all files written to a disk were read
only although the originals were read/write access.
Changing the atrtributes en-mass resulted in a
confirmation of the operation followed by no change to
the attributes at all. I've noticed this in shared
folders as well. why suddenly has Crimosoft decided that
I can no longer control my file attributes and whats the
solution (before I go back to the non-toytown version of
NT - W2K)?

thanks

You realize that all files written to a CD-RW by Windows XP *will be* read
only, right? You need third party software (no matter your version of
Windows) in order to have true 're-write' capabilities.

Read up here, follow the external links..

As for files on your system itself that you cannot change.. Are you sure you
are seeing what you are seeing? *grin*

You Cannot View or Change the Read-Only or System Attribute of Folders
