Reactavateing after hardware update

Hi all, i hope im putting this in the right place but ive a problem with the
windows actovation on another pc on our home network.

Resently one of the memory modules stopped working/burned out so it was
replaced with a 512mb module that was on offer (the origanal was a 256),
windows started up and noticed (as i expected) and said it needed
reactovateing (also expected as memory is one of the key things windows uses
as the anti theft thingy) it did all this and said everything was fine and it
reatovated itself and life went on as normal.

Now the problem is that EVERY time i swich on the pc it says windows needs
actovateing so i say "yes, actovate please", i then get a window up saying
that windows is already actovated and then windows logs out back to the user
screen, if i try to log on again it does it all again. its almost like
windows has stopped talking to itsself.

Can anyone help me please?
 
Reboot your computer into "Safe Mode".
While in Safe Mode, rename the wpa.dbl and wpa.bak files located in the
\Windows\system32 folder.

This will force activation on the following boot,
but should remove the message that you are already activated message.
Sometimes if these files get corrupted, they can cause this type of problem.

Ok tryied that but get a message saying actovation can not be done in safe
mode, then it logs me out again. can this be done from the safe mode comand
prompt?
