reacquiring old emails

Jim

I just bought a new computer. I transferred everything
from my old hard drive to a folder on the new one. I
installed Microsoft Office and set up Outlook Express as I
had it on the old computer but I forgot to export my old
emails (inbox, outbox, etc.) from the old computer before
I wiped the hard drive clean. However, I do have the
Microsoft Office folder from the old hard drive on my new
computer's hard drive.

Is there some way to retrieve my old email (i.e. dragging
a file or folder, or some other method) other than the
export process? I lost some really important info if
there isn't. I'M SO STUPID!!!

If someone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in
advance.
Jim

Outlook or outlook express?

Outlook's mail files are at C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook, OE's are somewhere else - see insideoe.tomsterdam.com
for help with it.
If you have access to the HD, try Restoration... http://www.snapfiles.com/get/restoration.html,
although I think formatting means you'll need a better recovery tool than
restoration.

Probably not, since Outlook Express stores the email in a place other than
the Program Files | Microsoft Office folder. You don't say what operating
system version OE version you were using before though.

Most OE mail folders have a file extension of .mbx You could try a search
for that.

And life will go on regardless ...

Version 4 of OE used that file type. Versions 5 and 6 use .dbx.
