Download the EXE and LNK file assocaition fix from Doug Knox's site:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm

Note: Many viruses corrupt the EXE file association, so run a virus scan.

'This file does not have a program associated with it to perform this action. Create an association in folder options control panel.' is a message that comes up ever time i try to open something except internet explorer. For programs to work i have to right click then go to 'run as' and type in my password and everything. But for stuff to work in control panel such as user accounts i can not do this. Does any one know how to fix this. A reply would help me alot.

Okay ... first of all you cannot not reach dougknox's file association fix
if you cannot use the browser which is an .exe file that needs fixing too.
SO I, for a friend, downloaded the fixes in a removable storage then
entered it into her computer, luckily her My Computer window being able to
open and run. Then know what? I gave her 6 fixes including the REG and ZIP
fixes and not all worked. 3 of them failed with this message "Cannot
Import C:\...etc Not all data was successfully written to the registry.
Some keys are open by the System or other processes." And the EXE file was
one of them that failed. I failed to find contact information to reach doug
Knox for help about this point. So anyone have something to say that will
help?

DOES ANYONE HAVE AN ANSWER FOR THIS YET?? Big problem for me! Downloaded
exe. and lnk file, unzipped... tried to open an email from slovakia with
this a.jpg attach. and can't open as it gives me this same message! Ran a
virus and bug check... all okay. Sometimes I can't even up up general
attachments that friends send... sometimes they come thru, sometimes they
don't. But this association file folder crap is exhaustingly painful in
trying to resolve it! Please... anyone out there with any suggestions!!!???
