Hi, I have both AdAware and Spybot S&D programs. I wanted to schedule them to
run 1x a week. When I went to control panel, then add task, i tried to
schedule both but each time, i got an error message that said "access denied"
and they wouldn't run. Can someone tell me how to schedule these so that they
will run, or is this a problem with the programs in particular? I tried to do
a task scheduler with "cleaning up disc space" a while ago, and it never ran
either. I must be doing something wrong. I have XP, but don't know everything
about its features. I am computer literate, but not an expert! any ideas
would be helpful. Is there another way to get sypware programs to run
automatically, without me having to manually request a search, like I have to
do now?
thanks to all for any help!

There are a couple of issues here.

Firstly, to schedule programs like Ad-Aware & Spybot, they must accept
command switches to run in "batch mode". I know Ad-Aware does, but I'm
not sure about Spybot. Check the Help info of these products for
command line switches.

Secondly, to schedule a job in Task Scheduler, you must supply the password of
the scheduling id. If you don't use a password in XP, there is a registry hack
at Kelly's site to allow a blank password. You'll find here:

This log file for Scheduled Tasks is stored in the Windows folder, where it
is used to record the activity of scheduled tasks. You can use the log file
to determine why a task might have stopped, or to check on the status of a
task.
