Re-installing XP

Greetings,

My system has been erratic lately so I decided to re-install XP from the CD
that was delivered with the computer. I chose New Installation since that is
what was done before. It progresses as far as a blue screen that says
"Windows setup" with a double underline. Nothing happens after this.

Secondly, max speed here is 26.4K so I requested an SP2 CD from MS about 8
weeks ago. How long you reckon I should I wait b4 making another request?

Lastly, I read in another post malware was mentioned. Could someone
elaborate on this please?

Viruses and worms and spyware fall into the class of "malware".
Since there are several good *free* spyware hunters that are
downloadable, that would be an easy place to start. Here are
a couple that I know of and which are frequently mentioned
favorably by others:
