I think I have deleted a shared file by mistake and now some programs wont
run, including help and support! I have just installed microsoft money and
that wont start either. Norton system works is telling me the following.
'C:programfiles\commonfiles\installshield\professional\runtime\0701\intell32\dotnetinstaller.exe' cant find the following file..mscoree.dll

I dont have aclue what this means so I tried to re install windows with the
product recovery CD's, however these just take me to a new screen that states
'files on CD is Ghost image file' clicking on the file produces nothing.

I tried to execute the discs by clicking Start, Run, then selecting the
appropriate drive and clicking execute but it then takes me to a new screen
which asks me to select a file to be opened, but there are no files to choose
from.

Can anyone tell me how to re install windows or what I may have done wrong.

You appear to have a Brand Name computer with a product recovery CD set.

This can be used, but it will completely erase all data on your hard drive
and reinstate the PC to a Factory Fresh state. Not what you'd like; I'm sure.

My recommendation, for what it's worth is to do either:
a: Attempt to do is borrow an XP CD [retail version] from one of your
friends and find the mscoree.dl_ file, then extract it to the relevant folder
on your system.

or

b: Failing that, buy a full retail version [upgrade edition is cheaper and
will suffice] and perform a Repair Install.

Bud, you might try to do a search for it on the hard drive. I searched my
HDD and found it in two places. 1st was Windows\system32 and the second
was windows\system32\urttemp. It is a dll file which is included on
Microsoft's .net download. You can reinstall .net to reclaim it. If you
find it simply copy it to Windows\System32 folder.
