My son has an e-machine that has been infected with a
virus. The only option seemed to be to use the Restore CD
to fix the damage (The system did not come with a real
Windows installion disc). The Restore CD wants to reformat
the hard drive, but my son will lose all his data that
way. So he bought a new hard drive to use in its place
thinking that we'd add the original back later as a
secondary drive and retrieve the files off it. The
Windows installation is not going well as the product key
from the case of the PC appears to be invalid. I've been
told that what I am trying to do is impossible since
Windows will only install on the machines original
equipment. Am I SOL? I don't even have the original CD-
ROM drive as that was replaced a year ago.
Thanks.
