I just upgraded hard disks and installed Windows XP on my PC. I had
saved my .PST file, so I thought it would be easy to bring Outlook 2002
back up like I had it before. I got all the messages back, but there
were some problems.

The one I'm really confused on is that there is nothing in the Address
Book, so grabbing an email address from Contacts is not working. How do
I get the Address Book to show what is in Contacts, like it did before
the re-install?

Thanks,

George

It is the mail profile that contains the Outlook Address Book service that
makes your Contacts folder appear as an address book. I suspect that, after
reinstalling from scratch, you haven't configured that yet. In Outlook,
click Tools>E-mail Accounts>Add a new directory or address book>Additional
Address Books>Outlook Address Book>Next>I don't remember what comes next but
it should be obvious. Then, after adding the service, right-click on your
Contacts folder, choose Properties>Outlook Address Book and make sure the
"Show this folder as an E-mail address book" box is checked.

Thanks - I did that, and now I can type a partial name in an address
field and use control-K to look it up.

However, I still cannot click the To or CC button in a message without
getting this error:
"The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder
associated with this address list could not be opened; it may have been
moved or deleted ..."

In the Select Names dialog box, when I show the pull-down options from
the "Select names from the:" filed at top, there are two Contacts
entries under Outlook address Book; one of the has my addresses in it,
and the other is empty. I suspect that since the folder locations are
slightly different with the re-install, there is a phantom Contacts
folder hiding somewhere, or not entirely gone. It doesn't show up in
the folder list, though.

Any thoughts?

George

Just remove the invalid entry here:
Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or address
books > Outlook Address Book > Change. >
