Howdy: I have had no luck finding out how to remove what ever is
keeping this computer from booting into Windows, so I guess I'll
have to re-install Windows.

I don't have the CD's that came from Dell. The owner has lost them
all!! I do have my retail copy of Windows XP and I was wondering if
I could use it to install onto the Dell and use the Key Code from
the Dell (which is pasted on the top of the computer case). I know
it would not have the MCE part, but they don't care about that.
Also, it has a SATA drive in it, would I have to do anything special
to get that to work? I have downloaded all the drivers that I could
from the Dell support site. Can I do this without any trouble from
Microsoft and will it work?

No, your retail software will not work with the OEM Dell and Keycode.
Need to contact Dell for replacement software.

If your Dell was made after July 15, 2004 your hard disk has a partition on
it which can be used to restore the system to an "as shipped" condition.

Thanks, Doug, that saved me a whole lot of trouble. It was way
faster than installing from a CD, too! Thanks you again.

Glad you got it worked out.

You might still suggest that the owner contact Dell about getting a
replacement DVD. (Dells Media Center Edition comes on a single DVD) They
will likely send it free if the system is still under warranty.

Having the actual media can be invaluable in certain situations.
