re-installing vista

hello, i installed windows vista on my computer,great!
i then had cause to renew my hard drive which i installed my copy of vista
onto.
windows told me today that i have to register this install but when i put my
product key in it tells me this number is already in use and i have to get
another key!
any ideas?
