My son's computer ran low on disk space. We started having
problems with connecting to the internet. There were no
restore points to go back to before the problems started.
Now, the wireless connections goes on and off, changing
every minute or so. I can connect to the internet using an
ethernet connection.

I want to reinstall Windows XP. This is an upgrade
version. Originally the computer had Windows ME.

My question is...Will I lose his music (in iTunes) if I do
a re-installation?

Help me...I'm desperate. Thanks, Mary

Reinstalling Windows won't provide you with more disk space, and may not
make any difference to your ability to connect to the Internet.

Reinstalling Windows, if done correctly, doesn't touch any user files -
documents, spreadsheets, photos, music etc. However, and if you don't mind
my saying so, reinstalling Windows is probably not a solution for you or
your son. You need to learn how to use your computer correctly, and to
protect yourself from viruses and other malware.

First, any viruses and malware must be removed (if possible: not all can be
removed without damaging your system):

Online Virus and Security Check, by Symantec
http://security.symantec.com/default.asp?productid=symhome&langid=ie&venid=sym

Online Pest Scan, by Pest Patrol

Here are some suggestions to free up disk space:
1. Run the Disk Cleanup wizard.
2. Reduce the amount of space allocated for use by the Recycle Bin,
Temporary Internet Files and Internet History.
3. Uninstall unused software.

For help with connecting to the Internet, contact your ISP and make sure
that your Internet connection, particularly TCP/IP, is set up exactly
according to their instructions.

It is very important to follow the advice presented here:

Hi Mary:

Check your file system before reinstalling windows. If you run on NTFS you
may find it very difficult getting your Music back. Is the audio files
located in "c:\Document and Settings\User\User Document\"? If so. move them
to c:\directory of your choice before formatting.
