Re-installation creates double OS

I had to re-instal WinXP Home after a power failure. The
orginial was in the directory C:\Windows. The new one I
put in C:\Winxp. After checking the new instalation, I
archive the old directory (C:\windows)to a CD.

However, when booting up the system says there are TWO
WinXP OS' on the machine but only one will boot up. How do
I trace and delete the other one?
