7200 RPM is the speed at which the platters rotate, it has nothing to do
with the storage capacity or the size of the installation. Go with a
default install, as anything else will just cause issues.
Don't install until you have SP3. If you're looking to make a lean
install then all the updates to SP2 cause a lot of uninstall files.
Granted even those can be removed, but why not do one SP3 install. As
a matter of fact you can slipstream SP3 into your CD and have even less
on the initial install.
If you have a retail CD you can do a custom install. Or post install
you can go into the windows setup and remove items like messenger or
accessibility etc if you don't need them. But really all this is only
saving you a few meg hear and here. I think all my KB uninstall files I
deleted could be burned to a CD. So what, 650 Meg tops. I hope that
new HD was not a 40 gig drive. If you got 100+ gigs, then 600 meg is
a drop and you are spending more time than I think its worth.
Just do the fresh load. Watch the apps you load. I used to load the
full office2003 CD. I don't write word docs but do read them so I just
downloaded the word viewer MS gives free. Its less footprint.
