Re-Install Windows XP??

My wife tried to rid her Win XP machine of pop-ups by
deleting some files that turned out to be Windows update
files. (The pop-ups are gone -- so I guess it worked!)
Net result, she can still logon and use the predefined
icons, but the Task Bar is completely gone, along with
Start button and everything that goes with it. She has
to ctl-alt-del to logout.

Since we don't know what files she deleted, I planned to
re-install Windows XP. (Still have the original CD!!)
The issue is -- If I re-install, what happens to all the
Windows XP updates that have been applied to her system
over the past 18 months? When I first expose the system
to the Internet to obtain the intervening updates from
Microsoft, it will also be exposed to the nasty viruses,
etc. I have another machine (the one I'm using now)
running Windows XP that has the updates and no problems.
Could I download the updates to this machine somehow and
pass them across the home network to her machine?

I really appreciate any help!

Thanks,
Ken Haynie

Ken;
Try the easy way, check for missing damaged system files:
Start/Run
Type "sfc /scannow" ENTER
Have the Windows XP CD available.

Updates will still be there.
