original disk where can i get a new one from? Am i able to download it off
the net?

No, you cannot download a copy of Windows XP from the internet.
If you purchased a "Retail Version" of Windows XP, read the following:

How to replace lost, broken, or missing Microsoft software or hardware
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[ln];326246

If Windows XP came preinstalled on your computer, you'll have to contact
the manufacturer of your computer and order a replacement Restore CD.

Read the manual supplied with the computer.. if you are not is possession of
said manual, go to the manufacturer website and download it from there..

Also, contact the vendor and ask how to 'return to factory settings'..

Thanks for the info, have moved from one side of the world to the other and
then back again and in the process the box with the disks and manuals have
been lost so will contact the Packard Bell and see what they can do. I do
appreciate your help.

I should have clarified a little.. companies like Packard Bell all have
their own cute way of restoring to factory settings.. if there was one set
way for all, we could be more helpful.. that is why I suggested the manual
and Packard Bell support..

I see that you are based on New Zealands North Island.. where did you spend
your time before returning there?..
