When going thru the re-install program (I have done so
twice), I get so far and then the following message
appears:
If driver identified in stop messge, disable driver or
check w/manufacturer for updates.
Tech Info: ***STOP: 0x0000008E (0XC0000006, 0X808B89BC,
0XF97C5520, 0x0000000).
How do I disable the driver?

I also get the following message when I reboot:
Following file is missing or corrupt:
<windows root>\system32\hal.dll. Please reinstall a copy
of the above file.

Appreciate any help!

You could try and google the full stop error to see if
you get more detail what causes this. This may be driver
but can also be hardware (you could try another harddisk
if you have one handy, see if it makes a difference;
could perhaps also be memory but its a guess).
If you know that its a particular driver, you boot off
the CD and use the recovery console to go in and manually
delete the driver (use the Repair option during the early
phase of Windows install)
