Greetings all,

I have a vastly inexpensive EMachines (a T2482) computer that came loaded
with XP Home. It came with the expected drivers CDs, and yada yada... and a
windows DVD.

Well, it seems the DVD is nothing but a bag of goodies (videos, tutorials,
etc.). I'd like to do a fresh install of XP on this machine and am not sure
what to do without a CD!

Does any one know about these DVD's? any way to get a legitimate CD?

Thanks

The manufacturer is required to give you a copy of Windows so that the
system can be recovered to the condition it was in when it left the factory.
That does not mean a Windows cd like the one you buy retail. What the
manufacturer did was to provide a Windows recovery system on two cd's. The
first cd contains an image file of what the hard disk looked like when it
shipped. Documentation is at
http://downloads.emachines.com/ug/desktop/en/Desktop_UG_Nexgen2_3.pdf on the
emachines website. This is your resource for solving your problem. If you
do not have the two-cd restore system then you need to contact emachines for
a replacement set. Without these two cd's you cannot do what you want to
do.

Excellent. I definately do not have those CDs; time to contact eMach. I
regestered everything properly after the purchase of the computer, shouldn't
be a problem I hope.

Thanks!

It may depend on the age of the system, but should go OK. Good luck.
