I had to restart my computer after adding avg virus. The first time I restarted the startup cycled over and over and I had to click on xp, then on "start from the last safe place". I had to do this about 30 times before it finally loaded. the next day, upon restart,I let it continue to cycle through start up over night. It still wouldn't connect
A "tech" came over and told me my reloader file was corrupt and he would have to make my old hard drive (still connected) the master. Well it starts up,but none of my info from my new hard drive is available including all of the office type programs (word, excel, e-mail, etc.) Is the corrupted file on the harddrive or in the system . when i boot up it says xp, but all of my old files from 2 years ago come up and none of the new ones. What is the fix.? If I buy a new hard drive can I get the info off the broken one
Thank you in advance to anyone who can help

That's some "tech" you have there.

Your original problem was that there was a problem with the installation of
your antivirus program. Before you install any software, you should always
check out the installation information provided by the software's technical
support department. Any major software company will provide detailed
instructions on how to install their programs, which includes how to prepare
for the installation.

When a software installation fails, the usual procedure is to uninstall it
and try again. Sometimes you are not able to uninstall a failed
installation. In this case, you should try to install the program again. If
you're still in trouble after this, you should contact the program's
technical support department and ask for their advice.

All this depends, of course, on the presumption that you know how to install
software correctly. Nobody shows you how to do this when you buy a computer
(which is a shame) so it's something you have to learn on your own.

There is no such thing as a "reloader file?. Where did your "tech" come up
with this? Using an old hard drive doesn't solve anything. You need to find
what caused the problem and solve it, if possible.

Go back to using the hard drive you were originally using. Contact AVG
technical support and ask for their advice. Ask them how to remove the
failed installation and how to install the software correctly. I have no
idea what problem(s) your computer was experiencing before you attempted to
install the antivirus software - it may be that a pre-existing issue is what
brought your computer down. If you are unable to fix your computer, there
are steps you can take to repair the damage, but they get pretty drastic. So
work with AVG first.
