Win XP Pro

I have NO idea but my programs list shows everything, EVERYTHING as Empty

Start
All Programs
Any/All folders you arrow over them and it shows a sub folder as (Empty)

If I want to start a program I have to go thru My Computer, C:, Program Files

How can I re-associate/teach Windows to learn the paths so that they will
re-populate the paths?

And I have tried Restore Point but it does not re-associate the paths.

Thank you

Are the shortcuts still in the folders under these paths?:

"C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Start Menu\Programs"

"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs"

If yes, then check the following registry keys to see if the appropriate paths are there:

Both of these keys:

"HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders"
"HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders"

should have values named:

"Common Programs" and "Common Start Menu"

with paths to the All Users Folders.

And both of these keys:

"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders"
"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders"

should have values named:

"Programs" and "Start Menu"

with paths to the user's folders.

Ben,

See if this helps.

Start Menu - 'All Programs' is empty or nothing happens when you click the
menu:
