this happens with or without an internet connection i
have noticed a warning beep at start up of what would be
the main wallpaper screen ive tried all sorts of virus
trojan tools to no avail the nearest help ive reached is
that its a cracked copy of xp but i have the sticker of
authenticity on the case witch of course lets me
reactivate every time so now im stuck the pc is not
bought from new but from a trade show used (computer fair)
so if any help is available i would really appreciate
it.
as airing on the side of caution i have two
young sons who have access to the pc they may have helped
this a long

Possible Resolution:

Boot into "Safe Mode" (press F8 while rebooting):

Go to Start > Run and type: regsvr32 regwizc.dll , and hit enter.
Then go again to Start > Run and type: regsvr32 licdll.dll , and hit enter again.

Apparently, and I can't say how, the above files became unregistered.

I am having the same problem,

I have tried the solutions above, but it still comes up
with the activation screen every time i try to log on.

In my case it turns out the pc had a pirate copy of xp, my
company sacked the it guy and i have taken over. We have
now purchased a copy of XP and installed it over the top of
the pirate version. Could this be causing the problems.

I hope i don't have to do a complete re-install.

Thanks
