Windows XP home Ed. Upon boot I keep getting an error
message that refers to RBA.exe What is RBA.exe and what
does it do??? Help
A Google for "RBA.exe" brings up a lot of links referring to
"compaq-rba.exe" so perhaps this is one of those files loaded onto your
computer by the OEM, if you have a Compaq. Otherwise, the usual
troubleshooting steps would be to:
1) Scan with current antivirus ("current" means a version not earlier
than 2002 but using updated virus definitions).
2) Remove spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy
(
www.safer-networking.org) and Ad-aware (
www.lavasoftusa.com). These
programs are free, so use them both since they complement each other.
Be sure to update these programs before running, and it is a good idea
to do virus/spyware scans in Safe Mode.
3) Stop unnecessary services/programs from starting with Windows - see
www.blackviper.com for services info and
www.pacs-portal.co.uk
startup_index.htm for programs information. To stop the RBA.exe from
starting, go to Start>Run and type "msconfig" without the quotes. Look
on the Startup tab for the probably culprit and uncheck the box next to
its name.
