Rapid connection loss and reconnection , very silly

I am running windows 2000 pro,

I keep getting a status bubble for my network connection that reads

" Cable unplugged "

then half a second later

" Connection Found"

It keeps switching, even when I unplug the cable.

I have restarted several times.

Any ideas?
 
Have you considered the possibility that the cable and/or NIC may be bad?
