Outlook randomly zips attachments. We have license
version of WinZip. We have tried to uninstall WinZip but
that did not correct the problem.

Outlook doesn't do this - you must have another add-in doing it, or
something on your mail server doing it.

Again, Outlook does not have a feature that does this. Check for add-ins
(tools, options, other, advanced....) or check with your mail administrator.
It isn't Winzip, either.

Hi Elizabeth,

Thanks for your posting here.

Based on my knowledge, we can confirm Outlook will not automatically
compression attachment. This behavior is mostly caused by third-party
add-ins or programs.

I therefore suggest you perform the following steps to narrow down the
issue:

Step 1: Disable add-ins
===============
1)In Outlook click tools then options
2) In the options window click the "other" tab
3) Click "advanced options"
4) Click "COM add-ins"
5) Ucheck all the boxes and hit OK, OK
6) Closed and reopen Outlook, and tes the issue again.
Step 2: Outlook Safe Mode
=================
a. Click Start, and then point to Programs.
b. Press CTRL while you click the shortcut for Outlook that you want to
start.
c. Hold down CTRL until you receive a message similar to the following:
"Outlook has detected that you are holding down the CTRL key. Do you want
to start Outlook in safe mode?" Click Yes.
Step 3: New Outlook profile
=============
Please create a new profile to isolate the issue.
For the steps on how to create a new profile, refer to the following
Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article:
829918 How to create a new e-mail profile in Outlook 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=829918
Step 4: Clean Boot
============
1. Click Start -> Run, then type "msconfig" in the input box and press
Enter.
2. Click Selective startup, and then clear the check box next to "Load
startup items".
3. Click Service tab, click Hide All Microsoft Services to hide them, and
Disable All.
4. Click Apply and OK, then restart the computer.

Hope this helps! If anything is unclear, feel free to let me know. Thanks
and have a nice day!

Thanks & Regards

Running QuickView Plus? That has settings to automatically zip attachments.

Ah - thanks. I don't use that version (and it's beta, so I won't). It
seems unlikely that this isn't in use, tho, or I'd suspect it woulda
been mentioned....

Well, the OP did say "tried to uninstall WinZip", so that implies they were
using WinZip. Perhaps the add-in wasn't removed and the "tried to"
indicates the DLL that the add-in references was still installed and, hence,
functioning.

True...But I'd have thought they would have mentioned an add-in that isn't
part of Winzip proper, especially a beta one...
and as it turns out, it was quickview plus. I need to remember that app name
for future reference when I see this question again; I've heard of it, but I
didn't remember its name. :-)

QuickView Plus is actually the most common reason that people get
automatically zipped attachments and don't know why. If they use some
zipping program they're usually aware of it but mostly aren't aware that
QuickView Plus does that.
