Your system could be overheating and/or your power supply could be
inadequate for your devices. Here are general hardware troubleshooting
steps:

1) open the computer and run it open, cleaning out all dust bunnies and
observing all fans (overheating will cause system freezing); 2) test
the RAM - I like Memtest86 from www.memtest86.com - let the test run
for an extended (like overnight) period of time - unless errors are
seen immediately; 3) test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility from
the mftr.; 4) the power supply may be going bad or be inadequate for
the devices you have in the system; 5) test the motherboard with
something like TuffTest from www.tufftest.com.

agreed. Heavy apps heat up the cpu and/or cards you are using for them.

Does it shut down and remain down, or does it reboot itself
automatically?

If it is rebooting then go into Control Panel - System - Advanced and
click on the Settings button in the Startup and Recovery (bottom)
section. In the Startup and Recovery window click on the checkbox
for "automatically restart" to clear it then click on Apply and OK as
needed to exit.

That should stop the reboots. However they will likely be replaced by
"Blue Screen Of Death" STOP errors and the computer may then lock up,
requiring a manual power off and restart. In that event the contents
of the STOP error message, including all of the parameters, will be a
direct clue as to the underlying cause of the problem.

Post the information from the STOP error message back here if you need
further advice or assistance.

Good luck
