Random network card disabled

I'm a consultant with a few hundred users spread over about 25 companies.
For some reason, random people call and tell me they can't use the network at
all. When I have them look, we find that the network card has been disabled
in XP, (as opposed to BIOS). Enabling it works every time, so it's not a big
deal. The first few times this happened, I chalked it up to people mucking
around, and left it at that. Now it has happened too many times, and has
happened to a real cross-section of my users. We all know there are
different types of users, with different levels of curiosity, knowlege, and
even spite, but this problem happens to people I know would never be inclined
to tweak anything. Also, it happens to a diverse set of hardware.

Anybody else seeing this?
