I used to be able to create blocks of text made up of "the quick brown fox
.........."
repeated several times by entering =rand() , with or without entering
numbers inside the brackets. Now,
however, I am unable to get that facility to work.
I have tried to rectify the problem by deleting Normal.dot, and eventually
by reinstalling Word 2000, but still no success. I have also tried using
each of the other two types of bracket. Everything else in Word 2000 seems
to be OK.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It's an intrinsic 'feature' so if you've got a proper installation it should
work. It has to be the first and only text in a new paragraph. The numbers
in the brackets are optional and specify the number of paragraphs and the
number of sentences in each paragraph.

Thanks for your response. I've used the 'feature' on numerous occasions in
the past in the way you described. I reinstalled Word from the same MS CD as
I used initially 3 or 4 years ago. I can't understand why the 'feature'
fails to work now. As I said in my initial post every other feature in Word
seems to work perfectly.

And "Replace text as you type" has to be checked in the AutoCorrect
options.

"Replace text as you type" was unchecked. Checking it fixed the problem.
Thanks to all for their responses, and particularly to Klaus for the
solution.

David
