I used to be able to create blocks of text made up of "the quick brown fox"
repeated several times by entering
=rand() , with or without entering numbers inside the brackets. Now,
however, I am unable to get that facility to work.
I have tried to rectify the problem by deleting Normal.dot, and eventually
by reinstalling Word 2000, but still no success. I have also tried using
each of the other two types of bracket. Everything else in Word 2000 seems
to be OK.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A basic suggestion: Try a WinWord or an MS Office newsgroup.
This one focuses on Windows 2000 issues.
