ran network setup wizard - now cannot log on

Hi

I ran the network setup wizard - it asks you if you want to create a set up
disk to run on other PCs. I clicked 'no' (for no other reason than i didnt
have my usb drive handy). it then asked me to restart, which i did. now when
i switch on Windows does not load. i just get a black screen with a with a
short, meaningless collection of characters in the top left corner.

Windows runs in safe mode, but i cannot seem to roll back whatever i have
done.

any suggestions would be appreciated!

Have you run System Restore? It can take the computer back in time to
before a problem occurred. To run it, click Start | All Programs |
Accessories | System Tools | System Restore. It should work fine in
Safe mode.

That's a very good question, Ben. With some important exceptions,
System Restore undoes all the changes that you've made to the computer
since the selected restore point. So yes, it can delete files.

To avoid losing your recent documents, System Restore doesn't make any
changes to the My Documents folder or its subfolders (My Music, My
Pictures, etc). If you have any new files that you want to save, copy
them into My Documents before running System Restore.

If a restore operation causes problems, you can un-do it. For more
information, see the topic "System Restore Overview" in Help and
Support.
