Mike

Every few days when I log on the following message appears on my desktop.

'RAMASST
The Windows XP standard CD-R/RW writing function is active. To write to
DVD-RAM discs this function must first be turned off. Do you wish to
deactivate it?
(Should you wish to deactivate it here, you can still activate the Windows
XP standard CD-R/RW write function by turning on the "This Driver's CD Write
Function" setting in the DVD Multi Drive property.)'

This is followed by a YES option and a NO option. Whichever I click, the
message disappears but I can't detect any changes anywhere.

Where does this message come from and where can I find the DVD Multi Drive
Property?

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Hi Mike,

RAMASST.exe is a process that get installed together with common DVD drives.
It is used to disable the XP built-in cd burning functions. This process
should not be removed if you do not have a problem with your CD/DVD burning
applications.

To disable XP's built in: Right click the Drive in
question/Properties/Recording and uncheck the box that reads: Enable CD
recording on this drive.

Thanks Kelly - that explains pretty well everything but out of curiosity can
you give me a further lead on this? When I rightclick the drive in question,
then Properties nowhere can I see an option or tab referring to 'Recording'.
Where else might this be?
