Hi I have a self built machine with an ASUS P5B M/B which can take up to 8Mg
RAM. I currently have 4 1Mg sticks on M/B but system only shows 3007 Mg.
Running Intel core 2 CPU [email protected] Ghz 1.86 Ghz and Vista Ultimate.

Thanx in advance drewpee

And you would be running the x86 32-bit version of Vista?
If so see the myriad of posts that explain why a 32-but system may not "see"
all of 4GB of memory if installed.

And not seeing means vista does not make use of 4gb or does it mean it will
only visually ignore it?

The RAM may be used by BIOS caching or shadowing the video memory or by
providing shared video memory.
This has all been covered many times over in this newsgroup - please search

Hi Drewpee. I would be willing to bet that you have a 32 bit version of
Vista loaded on that machine along with an integrated video card. Am I
right? If so, that's where your extra ram went. 32 bit OSes only
recognize ~3.x GB of memory, and if you have an integrated video card it
is most likely using some of your system ram.

Not quite true. 32 bit Linux can handle up to 64gb.

Fair enough. I was actually referring to windows OSes. I guess I
assumed it was implied since this is a vista newsgroup.
